As published in the August 2009 CA Tech Insider, CA 2E (Synon) version 8.5 has been released. This is one of the most exiting CA 2E releases to come our way.

New features in CA 2E r8.5 include:

• Web Service Creation: Web services can be created directly from the CA 2E model utilizing the IBM i Integrated Web Services Server for ILE. The CA 2E model will store meta-data to enable generation and re-generation of services.
  
• ILE Service Program Generation: This helps enable CA 2E functions defined as ILE modules to be built into ILE service programs.
  
• Improved Impact Analysis: The impact analysis support has been enhanced to take account of commented-out function calls in the action diagram.
  
• Improved Searching and Positioning: The capability to quickly search and position on Edit Functions, Edit Database Relations and related panels has been implemented.
  
• CA 2E Web Option Enhancements: User data related to Web Option implementations can now be stored in separate data libraries, known as Web Option Environments. This helps simplify the management and upgrade of Web Option systems.
  
• IPv6 Support: CA 2E Web Option and CA 2E Toolkit APIs have been updated to provide support for IPv6.
