CA 2E/Plex Enhancement Request Voting Deadline Nears

If you are a CA Plex or CA 2E developer, the deadline is fast approaching to get your votes counted!

From Bill Hunt, CA 2E and Plex Principal Product Manager

Hello CA Plex and CA 2E Developers and Friends!

We’ve had quite a few new members join our Product Line Community in the last week.  It’s great to see the continued enthusiasm….and welcome to our new community members.

This is a follow-up reminder to take full advantage of your CA Plex/2E membership by voting in our annual Enhancement Request Voting program.  I have attached the full lists of submitted enhancement requests that we believe  should be considered for future releases or service packs.  This is a great way to make your voice heard, in addition to the fact that it helps our team recognize what our users are looking for.

Everyone who uses or manages projects with CA Plex or CA 2E benefits by voting.  Please take the time to review the applicable list for you (CA Plex, CA 2E, or both in many cases) and let us know your Top 10 priority items.

o   To vote for CA Plex enhancements: https://www.casurveys.com/wsb.dll/156/PLCPLEX-ERJan2009.htm

o   To vote for CA 2E enhancements: https://www.casurveys.com/wsb.dll/156/PLC2E-ERJan2009.htm

-          You must be a registered member of the CA Plex/2E Product Line Community in order to submit a vote.  Use your registered e-mail address and password to log into the voting system.

-          The online system is the only manner is which votes will be counted.

-          CA Employees are not eligible to submit votes.

-          Please do not send your votes via e-mail to CA team members – votes submitted this way cannot and will not be counted into the results

-          Each PLC member is allowed one vote each (again, if you use both Plex and 2E you are able to participate in both surveys)

-          If you have colleagues using CA Plex or CA 2E who have yet to join the PLC, please encourage them to register:

o   Go to http://causergroups.ca.com

o   Click “Join Today”

o   Choose “CA Plex/2E Worldwide PLC Global User Community” in the drop down box indicating which user group to join

o   Fill in the required contact information

o   It only takes a minute and it costs nothing

-          In addition to the actual enhancement request survey, there are some poll questions included online regarding your overall use of the products, your impression of the PLC program and what events you would like to see  or would be likely to attend in the future. We ask that you answer these questions as well; this would be helpful to us and very much appreciated.

The “voting polls” are open and will close on Tuesday 31-March. We will eventually share results with the community via webcast.

Please let me know if there are questions – we appreciate your continued support in advance.

Best,

Bill Hunt

Rich Internet Apps Get Down to Business

No one can argue that Rich Internet Applications are becoming more and more prevalent on the web. RIA and web self service is all about saving money and increasing customer satisfaction - very important in tight economic times. In fact, Information Week recently reported that only 23% of companies are even considering cutting customer-facing projects.

But are RIA applications a good thing for business? The answer is increasingly “yes”, 54% of businesses now have RIA applications in production. RIA applications are especially appropriate for customer self service and for analytics, making complex interactions easier for the end user. As Information Week reports “A compelling user experience can add value to many types of applications, as long as RIAs are built with appropriate disciplines in place. For the full report, click here.

The WebClient i+ framework fits squarely into the new RIA world of web development. WebClient uses Dojo as the core presentation layer, an industrial strength cross browser RIA component framework used heavily in IBM and Sun commercial software. You will even notice it on the American Airlines reservation system and many other high traffic but rich sites. CA Plex brings an robust back end to the equation, aiding application governance and tight design discipline. Bottom line - if you are looking at RIA for your CA Plex or 2E based line of business application, you need look no further that WebClient i+.
